First Impressions - Makeup Revolution Palette & Giveaway

Hi everyone, it's summer, it's actually finally summer here in the UK and what better way to celebrate than to do a new giveaway :-)
I was watching a great little makeup tutorial
video a couple of weeks ago by the lovely Fabulous Hannah, who I talked about in my last post.  For her eyeshadow she used the new Makeup Revolutions 'Fortune Favours the Brave' palette.  I immediately fell in love with the look of it and thought to myself, I need that in my life right now, so I went straight over to the Superdrug website and ordered it.

One of the best things about this palette that I noticed straight away is that you get 30 shades, 30!!  And for only £10.  Let's just stop and think about that for a sec, if you buy palettes from most other brands, Urban Decay for instance you usually pay around £35 for only 12 shades and yet the quality of these drugstore palettes are just as nice and just as usable, so to me straight away that is a huge bonus and a huge bargain (and you know how I love a good bargain!)

Ok on with the palette.  Lets just take a minute to admire that packaging, seriously though it's so nice.  Once you're past the outer cardboard box, the actual palette itself is a very sturdy container, with a good magnetic closure and a very handy huge mirror!  I really love the matte gold colour and the metallic gold symbol on the lid too, it makes it all look and feel very elegant and expensive!

Ok let's start talking about these amazing shades.  As I mentioned before you have 30 shades, 8 along the top and bottom rows and 7 on the two inner rows.  There's no real particular system to the layout; as in, the metallic's are randomly placed and similar shades are not kept together, but oh well that's not exactly a major flaw, especially when the colours are this impressive!

From start to finish we have (top row) Glimmer, Buffer, Peachy, Hope, Fortune, Skylight, Transformer, Midnight Rainbow.  (Second row) Ice Cloud, Golden Coins, Cashmere, Tip Top, Yes Please, Green Machine, Smoothie.  (Third row) Caffeine Fix, Latte, Pink Diamond, Creme, Drama Queen, Lonely Planet, Blacqua.  (Bottom row) Soft, New World, Favour, Sunset Hour, Super Gold, Winning, Brave and The Revolution.

I won't bore you with describing every single shade in detail but hopefully you can see from the swatches they are pretty true to how they look in the palette.
One thing I noticed the most, is that the more product I packed on, the better and more pigmented the shades became, whether they were metallic or matte.  I don't know if this was just because I was using the brush provided, if I'd have used a better brush maybe they would have applied a little better using less product, I don't know!

Also I expect they would look even better with a good primer underneath.  As I've only swatched them, I can't tell you how long they last but just by rubbing over them gently they did seem to stay put quite well.
One down side I will mention is high fall-out, especially from the darker shades, so watch out for that!

Obviously one of the most exciting and alluring aspects of this palette are the 6 marble effect eyeshadows.  I've never really seen anything like this before, I thought they were a really interesting addition to the palette and when I first saw it, I couldn't wait to try them out.  Thankfully I wasn't too disappointed, I would've liked them to be a little more glitzy and for the golds and glitters to show through the original shade a bit more but they're still really pretty.

However, the metallic shades were the star of the show for me Midnight Rainbow, Hope, Fortune, Ice Cloud and Pink Diamond are definite favourites so far, they're really beautiful shades and have an even more beautiful sheen to them.  I also really loved the shade Winning, which is a gorgeous rich purple.  The matte shades I think will be great for base eyeshadows and Blacqua is the perfect standard black eyeshadow.

All in all though, this is honestly one of the best palettes I've seen and one of the best palettes I now own because I know at some point I could easily use every single shade in there!  I just can't wait to try them out with a primer!
